Transform a threat into an opportunity
Sargassum seaweed is brown algae that has invaded the Caribbean coastlines since 2011, causing serious environmental, economic, and health problems. Our project involves converting this bad-smelling, toxic vegetation into a useful, ecological biomaterial, which will become an ecological packaging product of the future.
More than 20 million tons of this seaweed can be found around the world. As it dries, it can cause severe headaches, nausea
vomiting, respiratory difficulties, and vertigo. It also has a highly negative impact on the marine ecosystem. Its accumulation causes the death of certain species and destroys fragile coral reefs.
